The Beavers have been Beavering Away!
We were delighted to welcome the “1st Southport (Ainsdale) Beavers” to Ainsdale Station last night when they came to fill up our second bug house located in the carpark.
What great children they were, so enthusiatic as they completed the task with all the lovely leaves, cones and other items to attract the wildlife to the area.
They worked together to complete the tasks asked of them and we are most grateful to them all.
Bug Houses attract predatory insects like ladybirds, solitary bees, spiders and lacewings which feed on common plant destroyers such as aphids, keeping flowers and vegetables healthy without chemical sprays and provide safe overwintering and nesting shelters for beneficial garden insects. By supporting these species, they promote natural pest control and pollination. This boosts local biodiversity while minimizing the need for chemical pesticides.
Our member, John, provided the hollow tubes and drilled wood to provide perfect nesting grounds for solitary bees (e.g., mason and leafcutter bees), which are highly efficient pollinators.
