We have the most wonderful community spirit in Ainsdale, and we are so fortunate to have lots of different groups of volunteers apart from ourselves, who do lots of other things in our Village.

Here are some details about just a few of them, they are always looking for volunteers so if you have some spare time, do think about helping out.

EDDA COMMUNITY ARTS CENTRE
Edda, which is Norse for ‘Knowledge’ is the community library in Ainsdale. They have preserved the stunning original architecture of the former Ainsdale Library, whilst giving the building new life. With half of the building preserved as a library, they have put in place a classroom and stage which are being used for different activities such as drama, dance and ukulele classes.

As they progress, you are sure to see Ainsdale bought together with Edda as a central hub for local arts, music and theatre. With many productions and performances, you are sure to see a variety of activities for all ages and much more.

EDDA is run by Bridge Farm, a company who do so much for those with special needs and they are kind enough to share their premises with residents by providing the free lending library and also putting on lots of social events and wonderful entertainment in the evenings. Call in a see what they have to offer, you will be made very welcome.

AINSDALE VILLAGE PARK
Many people have contacted us asking “where is the Ainsdale Village Park?” well if you haven’t been there, you should, it is worth a visit. It is located on Liverpool Road just south of Sacred Heart Church, on the same site as the Hillside Lawn Tennis Club. There is another entrance off Bradshaw’s Lane. The FRIENDS OF AINSDALE VILLAGE PARK are the people who care for the park. They have recently planted lots of new trees thanks to a grant of £4,353 by The Big Lottery Fund – Awards For All. We asked them to let us have some information for you and they sent us this:

Ainsdale Village Park, previously known as Ainsdale Recreation Ground, began its redevelopment in 2009. In partnership with Sefton Council Green Sefton the park was landscaped with trees and play equipment installed. In addition, volunteers planted snowdrops, crocuses and daffodils for the spring and created wild flower mini-meadows which attracted butterflies, bees and other pollinating insects in the summer. The Friends of Ainsdale Village Park decided that the park would benefit from additional tree planting and were delighted to be awarded grants from three funds for a total of 32 additional trees which have been planted over the last five years. The trees were carefully selected to fit the coastal theme of the park, be attractive to wild life and have spring blossom and autumn berries and leaf colour. The continued development of the park has been so successful that the Friends Group gained the Green Flag Community Award in 2017. Ainsdale Village Park has now become an important part of the local community, a well-used and much-loved leisure facility.

The playground is popular with little ones and their parents and the wider park area is walked regularly by dog owners.

Teenagers meet in the park and there are often informal kick-about sessions. The park is a place where people of all ages can meet together, build new friendships and make memories. The Friends Group welcomes new members and if you would like to get involved you can get in touch with Green Sefton at: greensefton@sefton.gov.uk

It has 5 all weather courts with lots of opportunities for members to play social or competitive tennis.  There is a strong coaching programme open to non-members and lots of social events during the year.  It’s a great place to get fit, have fun and make new friends.  New members are always welcome.  Their website is at www.hillsideltc.org.uk
