This year’s Open Gardens was on 30th June & 1st July and there were plenty of lovely gardens to visit. The weather was wonderful for both days. It is amazing how many generous residents gladly open their gardens for others to enjoy and to help raise funds for the Ainsdale Civic Society and for the various charities supported by the gardeners, this year more than 200 tickets were sold raising a magnificent £1295 for our funds.
And £1644 was raised for the charities including: Cancer Research; Alzheimer’s; Help the Heroes; Southport Kidney Fund and of course Ainsdale Village Church Gardens Fund.
These gardens are little gems which are hidden away behind walls and fences are always a delight and they allow you all to enjoy a variety of different styles of gardens, and perhaps get some ideas for what you can achieve in your own garden.
The variety of gardens is intriguing, so many different and diverse gardens, these are not large formal gardens, they are ordinary gardens in ordinary homes in which the owners have managed to achieve extraordinary displays.
The love and attention which has been poured into these gardens, is obvious to the visitor. This event is extremely popular, visitors come not just from Ainsdale, but from all over the North West and many came to our stall afterwards to tell us what a wonderful time they had. We met a few people who were new to Ainsdale and they said how lovely it was and how glad they were to be living here. One resident posted on Facebook “A huge thank you for such a wonderful day. My mum and I really enjoyed it. Everyone was so welcoming, and it was so interesting seeing all the different plants and flowers.”
Jon Howard of course was driving everyone around on his vintage bus and we have received lots of lovely comments by email and Social Media saying how much they enjoyed the event and how lovely the bus driver was! The bus has certainly become an established feature of the day.
