18th, 19th, 20th November 2025 – Our Stoic Team of Station Gardeners
Our Station Gardeners’ team leader, Andrew, reports that the Mossgiel Avenue border project in the Station Carpark is now complete. The remainder of the “dug” area has had landscape bark laid down and climbers have been planted where gaps had appeared (due to drought). It’s great to say that we now move into maintenance only for this border – although there is still a small area to be wilded.
The grass slope between the platform and the car park has now been cut, albeit later in the year than was hoped. On a cold, wet &,rainy evening some of the team raked the grass away, filling 15 sacks, and Martine has now scattered wildflower seeds. A lot of ivy has been exposed on the slope since it was cut and we think a future task will be keeping that under control.
Separately, cowslips have been planted in the grass slope in the hope these will naturalise along with some bluebells and muscari bulbs.
Winter Jasmine has gone into the new (triangular) platform planter in the hope it will give winter colour on the trellis in future years. All the station planters have been planted up for the winter.
Thank you to you all our volunteers who have worked tirelessly on this project this past year. To achieve it in the timescale we have is amazing.
