Village Christmas Tree 2021
December 2021: Village Christmas Tree
Despite Covid restrictions, we were determined to have our Village Christmas Tree. However, costs for this have risen dramatically, and our grant from the Council has been reduced.
We decided to ask our community for help and placed collection boxes in some local bars and shops. We also began some online fundraising.
The 25ft tree was delivered on the 25th of November and placed in its usual spot in the Village Church Memorial Garden. Sadly, before it was decorated, Storm Arwen struck, bringing severe winds across the UK. Next morning, we found our tree lying across the church notice board and the garden wall. Volunteers quickly were able to remove it to a safe place and we thank them for their help. The notice board is reparable and the wall is undamaged. The tree, with some work on stability, was re-erected. It was decorated with multi coloured lights and looked fantastic.
Our community raised almost 50% of the cost, together with a small grant arranged by our Councillors. This left us with a small bill and we will pay for the refitting of the notice board.
The tree certainly brightened our Village and everyone’s spirits and we look forward to next Christmas when we hope to celebrate the season without fear of virus or storm.
